Behind the Mission
Blue Conscience brings together marine scientists, educators and community leaders working to protect St. Kitts & Nevis’ waters. It is led by a small, deeply committed team and supported by an Advisory Committee with decades of combined experience across marine science, conservation and community development in the Caribbean. Together, they form St. Kitts & Nevis’ only community-embedded marine conservation NGO working across conservation, science and education.
Founder & Director
Dr. Alessandra Polo
Dr. Alessandra Polo holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Vienna. She first visited the Caribbean in 2017 while working for a Tropical Marine Ecology Summer School based in Bonaire, and immediately fell in love with this underwater world. Since then, she has carried out research on hard corals and worked on reef restoration projects across the region. She is a certified A.A.U.S. Scientific Diver, an underwater photographer, and a swimming teacher — always taking the plunge when it comes to new challenges. When she moved to St. Kitts in 2020, she recognised an urgent need for effective marine habitat and wildlife protection in order to ensure the health and longevity of such vital ecosystems. This is how Blue Conscience came to life.
Project Manager - Education & Outreach
Kodi Edwards
Kodi is from St. Kitts and holds an MSc in Marine Biology from Bangor University, UK. Her passion for the marine environment led to her first role as a Beach Conservation Officer, where she learned about a wide range of marine habitats, local fisheries, and the challenges they face — while also gaining experience in education and outreach. That experience shaped her enthusiasm for ocean literacy and for breaking down the fear and misconceptions people often have about the ocean and marine life. As Project Manager for Education and Outreach, Kodi works to reconnect young minds with the ocean, making marine science a creative, exciting, and accessible subject for every child she works with.

Tamara Silverstone
Tamara is a marine conservationist and storyteller dedicated to amplifying the voices of our oceans. After completing her university studies in the Netherlands and executing field-based scientific diving projects and ocean literacy workshops in the Philippines, she developed a deep understanding of marine ecosystem dynamics and community-led stewardship. Tamara is passionate about shifting passive awareness into tangible action dedicated to translating Blue Conscience's research, education programs, and habitat restoration milestones into digital waves that inspire global and local action.
Partnerships & Marketing Manager
Jessica Sergeant
Jessica is a marketing and partnerships professional with an international background in marine conservation, communications and fundraising. Having worked with conservation organisations internationally, she has supported digital marketing, fundraising, partnership development and strategic communications across a range of conservation initiatives. At Blue Conscience, Jessica leads partnership development and marketing, overseeing sponsorship, fundraising, digital communications and website development to support the organisation's growth and outreach across St. Kitts & Nevis.

Advisory Committee
Blue Conscience is supported by an Advisory Committee that provides strategic guidance and connects the organisation with networks across marine science, conservation, philanthropy, and community development in St. Kitts & Nevis and beyond. While the committee doesn't hold voting power over day-to-day decisions, its members bring decades of combined experience that shapes how Blue Conscience grows and who it reaches.
Dr. Kimberly Stuart
Dr. Kimberly Stuart is founder and Director of St. Kitts Sea Turtle Monitoring Network, Executive Director of WIDECAST and Professor at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her strong academic and field expertise strengthens Blue Conscience's scientific credibility and connects the organisation directly to habitat monitoring work happening across the island.
Miriam Knorr
Miriam Knorr is an environmental activist and member of the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, with over 30 years of experience in Caribbean conservation. Her long history in the region gives Blue Conscience institutional memory and a deep well of regional relationships few younger organisations have access to
Phynora Ible
Phynora Ible is Head of Cheep-In Charity St. Kitts and is well-connected across the local NGO sector. Her network helps Blue Conscience collaborate more effectively with the wider community and charitable landscape in St. Kitts & Nevis
Amanda Parr
Amanda Parr is a SCUBA diving instructor and certified yoga teacher based in Nevis. She has a deep connection with the ocean and her background bridges Blue Conscience's education and conservation work with the broader diving and marine tourism community in St. Kitts & Nevis
