Community Beach Clean-Ups
Since 2024, Blue Conscience has been organising regular ‘1-Hour-Power-Beach Cleanups’ that have turned into an awaited monthly-catch up by our volunteers.
You give back to the island by donating 1 hour of your time and we provide the rest. When removing ocean trash from our beaches, volunteers also become citizen scientists. In fact, our cleanups contribute to valuable data collection on ocean pollution.
Every piece of litter recorded is sent to the Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup Repository, which includes data from all over the world and publishes yearly reports on the status on our coastlines.
Did you know the Caribbean Sea has been ranked the second most plastic-contaminated sea in the world? Plastic is everywhere we look, and it’s more than just an eyesore. As Saint Kitts and Nevis are committed to outphase single-use plastic in the next coming years, ocean plastic still poses a serious threat to marine biodiversity and our health.
Plastic waste that ends up in the ocean and litters our coastlines breaks down into microplastics over time. These tiny particles harm wildlife, destroy entire habitats and eventually enter the food chain affecting human health.
Beach cleanups help build environmental stewardship by gathering members of the community and raising awareness on the status of our coastal environments. They help volunteers and communities understand where litter comes from and inspire change in habits - like reducing single-use plastics.
Clean and safe beaches also support mental well-being by providing a pleasant recreational space.
